2.0 Ingenium Timing Chain
The 2.0 Ingenium engine found in a large number of Jaguar, Land Rover and Range Rover has unfortunately been identified to have an achilleas heel in the form of the timing chain. Most modern engines opt for a chain drive system over belt driven timing. The advantage of this is that a timing chain is designed to last the life of the vehicle whereas a belt is a service item that must be changed within set intervals to avoid failure.
Unfortunately, this is has not been the case in regards to the Ingenium and due to materials used in the manufacture of the chains and components there has been consistent failures leading to stretched chains or even total engine failure.
